There are seven ways to get involved:
1. Know the facts. There is no safe level of exposure to Group A carcinogens, cancer-causing chemicals such as secondhand smoke.
2. Become an HCSIA member.
3. Join the HCSIA Speaker’s Bureau. Send a request to info@HCSIA.org.
4. Request a HCSIA speaker for your event/program. Send a request to info@HCSIA.org.
5. Be a smoke-free restaurant.
6. If you dine a restaurant that is not already smokefree, ask its management to consider doing so. Click here to download and/or print our smokefree dining request card, and submit it to the restaurant along with your payment.
7. Educate City Council regarding the benefits of a smoke-free Houston.
8. Send a letter to the Houston Chronicle:

9. Houston Smoking Ordinance 2006-1054 (effective 9/1/07) requires that all workplaces and public places remove ashtrays and clearly post "No Smoking" signs. Click here for a sample peel and stick sign HCSIA mailed to 3,000 area businesses and use it as a template for your own signage.
